Flat Rock is a free camp ground near the junction of the Fish river and the much smaller Rainville crk.
The river here is a series of gentle rapids inter-spaced with slightly deeper pools.
The deeper bits are not much more than waist deep and the rapids are little more than a quickening in the stream but they are a bit of fun for kids to float down on lilos.
It’s not a place for adrenaline junkies, it’s a nice spot to spend a lazy day by the river and there are lovely shady banks or the exposed rock shelves to spread out on.
And, once again, if sitting in the river on a hot day enjoying a nice cold beer sounds altogether too boganish for you, all I can say is don’t knock it until you try it or posh it up with a nice bottle of bubbly and a cheese plater.
Getting there: Flat rock is located on the Fish River between Tarana and O’Connell just off Mutten Falls Road
